Morocco: A Strategic Gateway for Pakistan’s Trade with Africa and Europe
The Kingdom of Morocco has emerged as one of North Africa’s most dynamic economies and a strategic gateway linking Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. With a population of nearly 38.4 million, Morocco’s nominal GDP is estimated at about $179.6 billion in 2025, reflecting an economic growth rate of around 4.4%, supported by strong industrial output, agriculture, tourism, and expanding manufacturing sectors.
Morocco’s economy is increasingly diversified, with leading export sectors including automobiles, phosphates and fertilizers, agriculture and food products, aerospace components, and electronics. Approximately 92% of Morocco’s exports are concentrated in six major sectors, demonstrating its growing industrial base.
In 2025, Morocco’s total external trade volume exceeded $110 billion, with exports estimated at roughly $43–45 billion and imports around $65–70 billion, reflecting strong domestic demand for industrial goods, energy, and machinery.
Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Morocco remains modest but promising. In 2025, total trade is estimated at around $450–500 million, with Pakistan exporting primarily textiles, rice, pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, and leather products, while importing phosphates, fertilizers, and chemicals.
For Pakistani businesses, Morocco offers strategic opportunities in textiles, pharmaceuticals, IT services, halal food processing, construction materials, and engineering services. Its extensive trade agreements with the EU, the U.S., and African markets make it a valuable logistics and manufacturing hub for Pakistani investors seeking access to African and European markets.
A proactive Pakistan–Morocco trade strategy involving joint ventures, industrial partnerships, and logistics cooperation could significantly enhance Pakistan’s footprint in North Africa and strengthen South–South economic collaboration.
